About Us

Hi, I'm Melita Long and I believe we are all here for a purpose - that every person has a way to contribute to this world. For most people this is expressed in our careers. I'm passionate about helping professionals develop their potential and fulfil their purpose to achieve their career goals and be happier.

In 2003 I went through a quarter-life career crisis (yes, it's a thing) after a tragic death in my family made me question my life, my job and my purpose. I had a successful career in corporate marketing in London, but when faced with a significant values clash at work, on top of losing a family member, I had to make a tough decision. Stay in the job and get sponsored to remain in the UK or stick to my values and step out into the unknown. I went through a period of soul searching and realised my purpose was to help others find theirs. I quit my job to become a career coach (before it was a thing) working with adults who wanted to find and realise their purpose through their careers. I returned home, talked my way into setting up the Careers Services arm of a recruitment firm from scratch, initially writing resumes or CVs.

My first business Career Coach Consulting was set up in 2005 (rebranded to Careers on Purpose in 2019) and since then I have coached 2,750+ professional and executive clients in a wide range of professions.

I know how to help you achieve career change, job success and to achieve your goals, because I've been there. Many career coaches focus only on career change or writing resumes and job change, I'm skilled at both. I support you with every step of your career; from ‘what do I do now?’ to creating your career plan, applying for and getting your ideal role, to getting promoted.

I'm passionate about developing people’s potential, particularly in leadership, enabling clients to be the best that they can be, and experience fulfilling careers. My client-centric, holistic techniques use narrative coaching, and a proven career coaching framework designed to get you results.

My qualifications include; Graduate Certificate in Career Development & Education, Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing & Management, BA in German & Spanish, and Certificate IV in Training & Assessment. I’m certified in Myers Briggs to level 2, Harrison’s Assessment, Strong Interest Inventory, MBIT coaching. I'm a member of the Career Development Association of Australia (CDAA) and Australian Institute of Training & Development (AITD).

As well as founding Career Coach Consulting in 2005, where I led a team of 6 career coaches, I've been a Career Consultant with Katie Roberts Career Coaching, and for 3 years was an Executive Career Consultant providing career and executive coaching to senior MBA students at the prestigious Melbourne Business School.

Having worked in Learning & Development, Human Resources and Recruitment, I know recruitment processes, interviewing candidates, and developing employee and manager skills. I developed and delivered a successful 2-year Leadership Development Program for a public agency.

As an employee myself, I know how job hunting feels and can guide you with proven approaches through this process. I see workloads and expectations of managers, employees and workplaces keep ramping up and the pressures these create. Now enter the new challenges of uncertainty, remote working and leading, overworking, homeschooling and burnout. I have a strong focus on enhancing wellbeing throughout all my programs and services to help you avoid or deal with career burnout.

  1. Client-centric Coaching Style
"People want to know how much you care, before they care about how much you know" – a motto I live by. I offer a warm, client-centric style and narrative coaching, that is encouraging and non-judgmental. I use a variety of career tools as catalysts to help you find your own answers.

Clients often say to me “Melita, I want you to tell me what I should do with my life!” - but it’s not about what I think. Every client has answers within them, even if they don’t know what career that is. My role is to guide the process of finding all pieces of the puzzle to discover what career picture that creates. Then I guide you on how to achieve those career goals.

  2. 1-stop-shop Career and Personal Brand Coaching
Many coaches provide career coaching or resume writing, I do both - offering end-to-end career and executive coaching to support you at every step. This support is crucial to enabling your success. Personal branding plays a vital role in your career success. With my corporate marketing background, I know how to market the quantifiable value you offer employers and have a knack for finding and quantifying your achievements and showcasing them in your CV/Resume, LinkedIn Profile and job applications.

  3. Confidence Boosting Approach
The biggest benefit of coaching for my clients is a boost in their confidence. This comes through really understanding yourself, what you need and seeing your achievements quantified increasing your value. My clients walk away with more confidence in their abilities – which reflected in their resumes, LinkedIn profiles, job applications, and how they present themselves in interviews and their career overall.
